Hello and thanks for stopping by!  With time, comes change....and what a trip it has been.  No pun intended...LOL.  Paul and I have been living in our motor home full time now for over 5 years and it's been great!  It's not just camping, it's a lifestyle.

Our motor "HOME"
Our Rig at Seven Feathers This is a 1986 Monaco Cavalier motor home. It's built extremely well and has solid oak cabinets...something I never had in any house I've ever owned! :o)

Living in an RV

If you were to ask me 10 years ago if I would be happy living in a home on wheels I would have asked you what drugs you were on! LOL  More than five years ago Paul and I did just that....moved into a motor home!  So I guess what I'm saying is that if I enjoy it, so will you!  It is different but it has a lot of advantages too.  There are more and more baby boomers retiring now and I know most of you do not want to cut grass or shovel snow (that's a nasty word).  Traveling is what retired people look forward to and what better way to do this than take your home with you!  You never have to pack (card board gives me hives) and you'll never forget a thing when you go visit!  I realize gas has gone sky high but if you want to get out and see the world before you die, you'll have to spend money one way or another.

Advantages

01) You always have your stuff with you.
02) You never have to pack (Paul is a contractor and we were moving every 6 months)
03) The view out your window changes all the time
04) If you don't like your neighbors...move to a new space
05) You're constantly meeting new people
06) Senior parks always have something going on (they're more fun than regular parks)
07) If you're traveling you can park in a rest area, casino or Wal-Mart parking lot, saves on hotel bills)
08) You can bring your "best friend" and not worry about pet deposits
09) You get to see parts of the world you might never travel to
10) You never impose on family when you visit
11) You ALWAYS sleep in your own bed!
12) And best of all.....you're always home no matter where you travel!!!

Disadvantages

01) You need to reduce what you can bring with you (or you must either have a home base or a storage unit)
02) The price of gas
03) Learning your way around a new area
04) Shopping for groceries more often

Mail Delivery
For those who don't have a permanent address

Living in your RV full time presents problems when it comes to having a permanent residence.  You need it for income tax purposes and also mail delivery.  There are 9 states that allow you to retain them as a domicile address without actually living there. Each state has it's own qualifications and rules, you'll need to examine each one to see which one best meets your needs.  The states include Texas, Nevada, South Dakota, Florida, Alaska, Wyoming, New Hampshire, Tennessee & Washington.  Keeping in mind you will have to eventually visit "your" home state, Alaska probably isn't a good choice. Check them all out as to their requirements.  Statistics show that the 2 most popular states are Texas and South Dakota.  My choice is South Dakota and if you need a reference of a very good service, please let me know and I'll get you hooked up.

Insuring your RV
Full time RV insurance

If you live in your RV full time, regular RV insurance will not take care of your needs.  Your basic RV insurance policy is similar to an auto policy.  Living full time, you have other exposures than merely getting away for the weekend.  If you have no other residence, you need coverage on your personal property in your RV.  How much contents coverage would it take to cover all your possessions in the event of a loss?  Also replacement cost is the best way to insure your contents.  You also need Personal Liability and not just automobile liability.  Personal liability covers your RV just like the liability on a homeowner's policy.  Contact your agent and discuss your situation to be sure you are adequately covered.

Just Do It!

If you've ever thought about living in an RV and seeing the country then Just Do It!  If you're not sure it's something you could do, then rent one for a week and see how it feels. Just remember the one you would buy to live in would be what makes YOU feel at home, the rental is just that.....a rental.  A lot of people buy one and go out for a month and then go home.  Most full timers I've met that did it this way made each trip longer and longer until they just moved in permanently.  You won't be sorry!
